Ingredients for Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients: Powdered sugar, active dry yeast, butter, white sugar, eggs, milk, and flour.

Active dry yeast: Make sure the yeast is fresh and active for proper dough rising.

Milk: Use whole milk for a richer dough.

White sugar: Used in both the dough and in the filling. Adds sweetness to the dough and helps activate the yeast.

Eggs: Provides structure to the dough.

Flour: All-purpose flour works well.

Butter: Used in the dough, filling and in the frosting. Remember to take out the butter about an 30 minutes to an hour before you make these cinnamon rolls to allow it to come to room temperature.

Granny smith apples: Their tartness pairs well with the sweetness of the filling.

Brown sugar: Provides a deeper sweetness and adds moisture to the filling.

Cinnamon: Enhances the flavor of both the filling and apples.

Powdered sugar: Makes a smooth, lump-free icing.

Cream cheese: Make sure to pull this out when you pull out the butter to allow it to come to room temperature.

How to Make Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls

Warm your milk in the microwave or on the stovetop until it's about 105-115°F. If on the stove, make sure you don't scald it - heat it up slowly. If you are using the microwave, heat it for one minute.

In the mixing bowl for your stand mixer, combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let the mixture sit for 8-10 minutes until the yeast starts to bubble.

In a separate small bowl, whisk the eggs and then add them to the yeast mixture, whisking again to combine everything well.

Next, use your dough hook to add flour to the yeast mixture, mixing for 2-3 minutes until a shaggy dough forms.

Add butter to the dough and beat in the mixer for 8-10 minutes until a smooth dough ball forms.

Cover the dough and let it sit for about 2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

While the dough is rising, chop up the apples and combine them with sugar and cinnamon in a large frying pan.

Cook the apples for 5-8 minutes until they have softened. Then, add brown sugar and stir until everything is mixed well. Remove from heat and let it cool down.

Tips & Tricks to Make the Best Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls

Here are some tips for making your apple pie cinnamon rolls:

Chop Apples Small: Cut the apples into uniform, small pieces so they cook faster and fit better in the rolls.

Extra Spices: Add a sprinkle of nutmeg or a splash of vanilla extract into the apple mixture for more flavor.

Room Temperature Ingredients: Make sure your butter, eggs, and other ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother dough.

Perfect Slices: Use dental floss to cut the dough into rolls. Slip it under the dough, cross the ends over the top, and pull to cut through easily. Or use a serrated bread knife to cut the dough.

What to Serve with Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls

Vanilla Ice Cream: Nothing pairs better with warm apple pie cinnamon rolls than a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Caramel Sauce: Drizzling some caramel sauce over the rolls or better yet - over the cinnamon rolls and vanilla ice cream.

Whipped Cream: A dollop of freshly whipped cream on top.

Butter: Growing up, we used to love to add a pat of butter to our cinnamon rolls and then heat it all up. Delicious!

Chopped Nuts: Sprinkle some chopped nuts such as walnuts or pecans on top.

Hot Apple Cider: Serving hot apple cider alongside the rolls is a delicious combination!
