Ingredients for Raising Cane's Toast Recipe
All-purpose flour: You'll need both for the initial mix and for handling the dough later.
Instant dry yeast: Helps the dough rise and gives it a light, airy texture. Make sure it's fresh for best results.
Whole milk: Make sure to warm the milk to help activate the yeast.
Eggs: Bring out of the fridge about a half an hour or so before making these to allow the eggs to come to room temperature.
Sugar: Sweetens the dough and helps with browning.
Salt: Enhances the flavors and strengthens the dough's structure. Use fine salt for even distribution.
Unsalted butter: Make sure it's room temperature.
Olive oil: Helps to add moisture and keep the dough tender.
Sesame seeds: Optional for garnish.
Egg (for egg wash): Helps achieve a golden-brown crust when baked.
How to Make Copycat Raising Canes Toast
Heat milk for 30 seconds in the microwave.
Add to the bowl of a stand mixer with 1 cup all-purpose flour and the yeast.
Mix until combined.
Cover with a towel and let sit for 30 mins so the yeast can bloom.
After 30 mins add in the eggs, flour, sugar, and salt.
Add in the cubed butter
Knead on medium speed in a stand mixer with a dough hook for 20 mins.
Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl, cover with a towel, sit in a warm area and let rise for one hour or until it has doubled in size.
Grease a baking dish and set aside.
Once dough has risen, remove the dough from the bowl (it will be sticky, so make sure and add flour onto your hands)
Divide the dough in half and place one half on a lightly dusted surface and press out with your hands. Cut it into 6 pieces.
Flatten each piece, then fold one side to the center and the other side on top. Flatten again with your finger, turn the dough, and roll it tightly.
Place into the prepared baking dish. Repeat with the remaining dough and let the rolls sit in the dish for another 30 minutes.
Brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds if you'd like. Bake in the preheated oven about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Add butter to each side and toast the bread in a skillet on each side before serving.
Tips
Here are a few tips for making the best Raising Cane's toast.
Use Room Temperature Ingredients: For a smoother dough, make sure the eggs and butter are at room temperature before mixing.
Check Yeast Freshness: Always check the expiration date on your yeast and store it in an airtight container in a cool, dry place to maintain its potency.
Warm Milk: The milk should be warm, but not hot, to avoid killing the yeast. It should feel like a warm bath—just above body temperature.
Preheat the Oven: Make sure your oven is fully preheated before baking the rolls.
Use a Dough Scraper: A bench scraper can help you handle and divide the dough more easily, especially when it’s sticky.
Flour Your Hands: Dust your hands with flour when handling sticky dough to prevent it from sticking.
Roll Evenly: When rolling the dough, try to keep an even thickness.
Shorten Rising Time: To speed up the rising process, place the dough in a warm, draft-free area or use a proofing setting on your oven.
Toasting: Make sure not to toast the bread for too long. It should be golden brown.
Use a Dough Hook: For a smoother, more elastic dough, use the dough hook attachment on your stand mixer instead of mixing by hand.
Egg Wash Alternatives: If you’re looking to avoid egg wash, you can brush the dough with milk or cream.
Leftovers
To store leftovers, allow the Texas toast to cool completely.
Once cooled, transfer the pieces to an airtight container or resealable plastic bag. You can keep the container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
